The West African region has made significant strides in promoting and protecting human rights through the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice (ECCJ), which plays a pivotal role in adjudicating human rights cases, providing justice to victims and setting important legal precedents. However, effective implementation at the national level of these regional decisions remains a critical challenge, not dissimilar to other Regional Courts’ decisions in Africa.

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), litigants and key stakeholders are integral in ensuring that the decisions delivered by regional human rights mechanisms are not merely words on paper but result in tangible improvements in the lives of individuals and communities. Their roles in advocating for, monitoring, and facilitating the implementation of these decisions are invaluable.
