Yesterday, the AU’s Department of Infrastructure & Energy released this video on their LinkedIn account.

This specific department has a long-running programme called PIDA (Programme for Infrastructure & Development) through which the AU prosecutes the agenda of continental integration together with what is AUDA NEPAD now. It includes transport; waterways; etc.

Aviation is also considered infrastructure.

The specialized agency for aviation is AfCAC, which has been around since 1969!

AfCAC shares its compound with the UN’s ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organisation) Western & Central African Office.

We all believe the Lome Ministerial Declaration of last week that was accompanied with an implementation matrix will mean AfCAC will be given its due recognition as the only AU agency appointed by the AU to also serve as *Executing Agency for Yamassoukro Decision of 1988*, which initially called for Open Skies for Africa.

The video contains no speech, but interlaces images and video clips of the Lome conference with animation reminding us of the 1988; 2018; 2026 milestones of Africa’s energies towards an African Sky.

We are reminded of the key actors, including the SAATM Champion, President Faure Gnassingbe of Togo.

The countdown to 2027 is on!
