🎬 IN THE ROOM — SERIES INTRO

We often talk about institutions as if they are buildings, logos, or documents. But institutions are really moments —moments when decisions are taken, when crises are mismanaged or prevented, when citizens are included or ignored.

Over the past three decades, I have been in many of those moments —sometimes as a student, sometimes as a delegate, sometimes as a moderator, and sometimes simply as an observer paying close attention.

I was there when peacekeeping failures shook entire nations.I watched European integration change daily life.I followed Africa’s governance systems as they were tested by conflict, corruption, and economic pressure. And I have worked inside African policy spaces where reform is negotiated, not announced.

This series is not about what institutions promise. It is about what happens when those promises meet reality. Each episode connects a real policy moment to the African institutions designed to respond to it —agencies that shape trade, protect rights, manage risk, promote accountability, and drive development.

Because if citizens do not understand how institutions work, they cannot demand that they work better. This is not a history lesson. It is a civic conversation. This is IN THE ROOM.
